Overview

Mathew Crawford Architects were commissioned to design a unique and sensitively crafted project in the heart of the Lewes Conservation Area.

The client—a writer—sought to create a modest garden studio behind his Grade II listed home. A key part of the brief was to carefully incorporate the historic Grade II listed town wall, which forms the rear boundary of the garden.

The proposals include a new flint wall to complement the existing historic fabric, a sculpted brick garden wall, steel-framed windows, and a green roof. The original town wall will remain exposed and celebrated as a central feature within the space
