Mathew Crawford Architects

The Orangery | Birmingham

Mathew Crawford Architects were commissioned to design a new family dining and entertaining space inspired by the traditional orangery.

Originating in the Italian Renaissance, orangeries were once symbols of prestige—elegant garden structures designed to house exotic plants and citrus trees. These light-filled spaces showcased advances in glass technology, often featuring expansive glazed lanterns that brought the outdoors in.
