Savernake Road is located in the London Borough of Camden and backs onto Hampstead Heath. The site also falls within the Mansfield Road Conservation Area. The existing property is a 2 bedroom garden flat on a charming tree lined street. The clients, a young professional couple, tasked us with adding an additional bedroom, utility and office for their growing family.
We looked at several options to achieve the clients brief and the final proposals were for a modest rear infill extension. The existing master bedroom and ensuite are maintained. The family bathroom is relocated to centre of the flat, utilising unused space in the existing second bedroom. Relocating the bathroom provided the opportunity to create a new children’s bedroom complete with built in wardrobes. A new utility is proposed off the existing kitchen with a new office space overlooking the courtyard garden.
We investigated 2 different architectural appearances. The first was a more traditional flat roof form with brickwork walls and heritage ‘crittall’ style windows. Rooflights in the flat roof provide additional ventilation and natural daylight to the bedroom and utility. The second option proposes a more contemporary appearance. It features a mono-pitch roof and large window panes. The entire extension is clad in timber which wraps up the walls and over the roof.
“Mathew has been absolutely amazing with helping us begin what felt like an overwhelming project doing our extension and has made the whole process feel very smooth! His knowledge, attention to detail and expertise have been great! Highly recommend! Thank you so much Mathew for making our extension journey a really exciting and fun process”
