Mathew Crawford Architects were lucky enough to work with the owners of this beautiful home in Lewes Conservation Area.
We were briefed to create a large new master bedroom suite with a new ensuite and large windows to connect to the beautifully kept rear garden.
The extension stood over the flat roof of the existing kitchen and the design sought to have minimal impact on the space below. An asymmetric form was derived in order to reduce impact on daylight to the neighbouring properties. A large oriel window, complete with seat, was positioned to the rear with calming views over the garden below.
“In 2021, my partner and I employed Mathew Crawford to design an extension on top of our ground floor flat roof. From the early meetings Mathew listened carefully to what our intent was. He offered valuable advice as to what was possible and what was not. From our regular meetings, both face to face and online, we worked closely to develop a proposal that was practical to build and aesthetically pleasing whilst at all times keeping a close eye on the budget. Mathew’s drawings were clear, full of detail, easy to follow and regularly updated. Mathew’s contract price was fair where any extras that cropped up were discussed in detail before being implemented. His process of staged payments was also fair and easy to follow. We were also kept informed in detail of any materials or suppliers that were to be used during the construction phase. Mathew also dealt with the local authorities and took care of getting the planning permission that was required for the contract.
Throughout all this period we found Mathew to be extremely helpful and considerate and would not hesitate in recommending him.“
