Yew Tree Way | The Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

Overview

Yew Tree Way is nestled in the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, on the outskirts of Stroud, Gloucestershire. Seeking to make the most of the picturesque surroundings, our clients commissioned Mathew Crawford Architects to design a bespoke garden retreat.

Conceived as a multifunctional space, the garden room serves as a tranquil home office for the professional couple and also accommodates guests as a comfortable bedroom. Fully insulated and thoughtfully designed, it offers year-round comfort and a seamless connection to the natural landscape.

Natural Design for a Semi-Rural Setting

To complement its semi-rural surroundings, the exterior of the structure features natural materials throughout. The garden room is fully wrapped in larch cladding with a refined ‘shadow gap’ profile, creating a clean and modern finish. A sedum green roof tops the overhanging structure, offering natural insulation and summer shade. Adjacent to the main space, a wood store and a concealed door are seamlessly clad in the same larch, maintaining a unified aesthetic. At the rear, a discreetly positioned water butt collects rainwater for use in the garden, supporting sustainable living.
